Client: Hug in a Bag (www.huginabag.com)
Project: Logo and identity design

Our director has been a supporter of the Hug in a Bag cancer charity from when it started in October 2006 in Sunderland. Its aim is to give a 'hug' in the form of a pamper bag containing gifts and information to every person diagnosed with breast cancer in hospitals in Sunderland and Blackpool.

The design challenge was to create a universally warm and friendly identity based on the charity's mascot, a bear named 'Hugo', that could operate in conjunction with the original Hug in a Bag identity. The design strategy was to incorporate bold, funny and eye-catching elements but in a thoughtful and controlled manner (however nobody mentioned cute - that was a happy accident!). It was essential that the design have a dynamic and colourful look that would appeal to all ages and combine a feel-good factor with the encouragement of donor involvement. Designed as part of a complete brand identity, response to each application has been overwhelmingly positive and we continue to remain a valued partner in the organisation's many campaign objectives.

The challenge was to create a design that gave a general feel of what they do without being too specific which would set itself apart from the competition.
